Curious Inquiries 7/10/2024

This is the first in a series of different random questions that come to mind that I will be attempting to find the answers for, using Google, Bing, or whatever means necessary to get a response.

-How many Chickens in a chicken nugget?

This lead me practically nowhere. The answers were basically non-answers, with many different sources claiming there is no way to estimate how many different chickens make up the ground chicken that goes into a batch of nuggets, let alone a single nugget. My guess? At least one!

-How long does a Yankee candle last?

According to the Yankee Candles website, an original large jar candle (like the one I have that inspired this search) can last 110 to 150 hours. Their signature medium jar can last 35 to 50 hours, while a medium 3 wick tumbler only lasts 15 to 25 hours. A signature small tumbler can last 20 to 30 hours. Their minis last a mere 7 to 10 hours.

-How do they get the lead in pencils?

“Gotcha!” said the Google search lords. There is no lead in pencils! It’s graphite. All chastising aside, a YouTube video I found informed me that the graphite is mixed with clay, and the wood (cedar usually) is cut to pencil length. The graphite is layered between two layers of wood with glue, and then the pencil sandwich is cut and shaped after the adhesive is cured. Voila! Pencils!

-When is the best time to wash your car?

This is a matter of opinion, and the top opinions on Google seem to be:

  1. In the summertime, early morning before the heat hits, or in the evening once things are starting to cool off.

  2. On a cloudy day when there is little direct sunlight. Oh, and make sure the winds are low as well, to stop dirt from turning to mud as soon as it hits your freshly washed car.

  3. There is a popular (controversial?) opinion that you should wash your car after it rains. I’ve heard this one before, and no one typically has a straight answer as to why. However, Google has explained “to wash contaminants off” whatever that means. It probably has something to do with acid rain or raining mud. I’ve also heard that you supposedly use less water washing during a rain shower, but I have my doubts.

That’s all folks! Be on the lookout for more questions, and if you have anything you would like me to research go ahead and reach out! I’m always down for some investigating!
